Keurig Green Mountain is best known for producing coffee makers that use disposable, single serve coffee pods. On Tuesday, the company issued a voluntary recall notice for more than 7 million units sold in the U.S. and Canada.
According to Keurig, some faulty units can overheat and spray hot liquids on users. The company said in a statement on its website, “Keurig has determined that this event is more likely to occur if the brewer is used to brew more than two cups in quick
succession.”
The company says that the only units affected are those with the model number K10 (formerly identified as B31) that were produced prior to July 2014. These Keurig Mini Plus Brewing System units can be returned for a free repair kit.
Keurig is working with the
U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and
Healthy Canadians on this recall after more than 200 complaints were filed about hot liquid escaping, including 90 reports of burn-related injuries. These units were sold online as well as other major retailers such as Kmart, Kohl’s, Target and Walmart
from December 2009 through December 2014.
